files rearranging themselves

Hi all,
When I first started putting my story on the computer, I arranged them, or rather at first, they arranged themselves in the right order, blind halucins 1, blind halucinations 2, etcetera, but after the 4th file, they started arranging themselves, I mean instead of being like, 1 2 3, 4, they are arranged like, 1, 10 11, 12, etcetera, and after 19, there's 2, then 20 to 28, then, files 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are below them. Why did they arrange themselves out of order that way? I have never put a story on the computer till now, and never anything in files like that, so not sure what to do. I thought of trying to cut and paste them in the right order, but I might lose them, and a friend suggested I could make another folder, then copy the files to the new folder, putting them in the order they're suppose to go in, then deleting the old folder. Which should I do? Thanks,
Wonderwoman

Well, the computer isn't very smart.
It bases its file order on the first digit it sees.
Thus iit looks at files e.g. 1, 11, and 2 and it thinks "oh I found a digit, the digit is 1, ok this comes first then" and thus files 1 and 11 go together because 1 is the first digit of the number, it does not evaluate the whole number.
There is a simple way around this and I think it'll work. Change File 1 to file 01 .. do the same up to file 09, after that the computer should order the files correctly.
